Once again, this year's Summer Game Fest showcased some absolutely incredible looking, highly anticipated games

Another year means another Summer Game Fest going live in June. Ever since the cancellation of E3 during COVID, Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest has been a highly anticipated event, showcasing the most amazing new games coming "soon". This year was no different and the show opened with one of my most anticipated highlights:
The Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake has been highly anticipated for years, as it was one of the most beloved games in the series. Debuting on the Sega Dreamcast, Code Veronica was the first fully 3D rendered Resident Evil, and was a showcase title for the console back in the day. You can still purchase and play the Xbox 360 remaster, but it really hasn't held up well, so a remake is just what the doctor ordered.
The trailer itself looked incredible, and I didn't even know what it was at first. The moment I saw Claire though, I knew. The game is allegedly coming in 2027, and personally I can't wait.
There were some great games after RE Veronica, but the next one to really catch my eye was HAEX - a zombie-ish futuristic survival game set in the middle of a forest that reminds me a lot of northern California, or the Pacific Northwestern United States in general. The combat looks exciting, but the blend of high futuristic elements within nature was really the most interesting element to me. Seeing that combination is not only fresh, but
The next game that really caught my eye was the new TMNT: The Last Ronin game. Partially because it's TMNT and the teaser looked amazing (although they didn't show much) but mostly because Paramount partnered with Platinum Games to make it. For anyone who doesn't know, Platinum Games are action game masters, most recently giving us the excellent Ninja Gaiden 4, Nier: Automata and the Bayonetta series. If their previous track record is any indication, we are going to be in for a treat.
This military cover shooter (not to be confused with the free-to-play military shooter CrossfireX - not confusing at all, right?) caught my eye primarily because it looks so damn good. It also appears to be a mix of military third-person shooter plus supernatural zombie something. The new cover system looks really interesting too, where your character changes crouch height dynamically with the environment. Can't wait to see more on this one.
Of course the first thing that caught my eye about this was its incredible graphics, and that was before I had any idea it was a new Stellar Blade game. The city setting and atmosphere looked organic and like a living breathing world, kind of like what Capcom did for Resident Evil Requiem's city, but this looked even better somehow. Then once the combat started, I thought: wait, this looks A LOT like Stellar Blade, and you know what? IT IS! I absolutely adored the first Stellar Blade, playing through it 3 to 4 times in order to get all the endings and unlock everything, and this one looks to continue the first game's amazing combat and gorgeous environments. I also love the whole narrative in the first Stellar Blade, so I'm excited to see that continue as well. This game appears to have a different protagonist, Evie, and feature melee-based combat instead of weapon-based combat, at least from what was shown in the trailer. Can't wait to learn more.
The last reveal of the show is arguably the most anticipated: the final entry in the Final Fantasy remake trilogy - Revelation. Some people, including myself, were concerned that Square Enix might abandon the remakes due to dissapointing sales, but luckily they powered through and are getting ready to release the final entry. I'm very excited to see the remake series' finale, which could also open the door to other Final Fantasy remakes (VIII please!) if this one sells well. I think it could also help boost sales for the entire remake trilogy since now gamers can experience the entire story.
Overall it was a successful Summer Game Fest, and the reveal of some super highly anticpated games, including RE Veronica, The Last Ronin, Stellar Blade 2 and Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, ensure gamers will have no shortage of absolutely incredible games to play over the coming years. And that's not even including other blockbusters not covered in the show, like GTA VI, Gears of War: E-day, Fable, and Elder Scrolls 6.
While the gaming industry itself has been going through a bit of a transformation, and financial rough patch, gamers have never had it better.
